The Texas Guardsman – July 1943
The Texas Guardsman Magazine from July of 1943. The Texas Guardsman was a monthly publication by the Texas State Guard Officers Association. In this edition you will find articles on:
- The Texas State Guards involvement in the Beaumont Riot on the night of the 15th of June and early morning of 16th of June of 1943. Martial Law was declared and Guardsmen from nine Battalions of the Texas State Guard supported operations. Texas State Guard supported the Texas Ranger, Texas Highway Patrol, Jefferson County Sheriff and the Beaumont City Police for total of approximately 2000 on the Task Force.
- The Eighth Service Command State Guard School that held a Camp Bullis near San Antonio. The school was held in four sessions in July of 1943. The training included close order drill and several training films.
- A Home Study Course for Texas Guardsmen which is the first of monthly lessons that would appear in this publication. This lesson was on Military Courtesy and Customs of Service. At the end of all the lessons was a reading assignment.
- General Knickerbocker’s (Texas Adjutant General) approval of a new shoulder sleeve insignia for the Texas State Guard. Also approved was a miniature crown shaped shield that was to be worn by enlisted men on the garrison cap and lapels of blouse to be worn a cloth distinctive insignia.
