The Texas Guardsman – April 1946

The Texas Guardsman Magazine from April of 1946. The Texas Guardsman was a monthly publication by the Texas State Guard Officers Association. In this edition you will find articles on:

1.Walker Is A “Soldier’s Soldier”: Major General Fred L. Walker who is originally from Ohio, transplanted himself in Texas to become the Commander of the expanded National Guard. He commanded thousands of Texans in Italy during WWII who say he will make a first-class Texan. Gen. Walker stated the organization of the Texas Guard is far ahead of other states.

2. 37th Builds Fast Under Veteran Officers: In the reorganization of the Texas State Guard 37th Battalion absorbed the 8th and 12th The 37th Battalion retained it existing organization and added three new companies. The strength of the Battalion is now 36 officers and 468 enlisted personnel.

3.Texas School for the Deaf Now Has Crack Cadet Crops: The State School for the Deaf has a Battalion of Cadets that are commanded by Lt. Col. W. G. Bohannon, a former member of the 5th Battalion of the Texas State Guard. The military training at the School for the Deaf was originally started by the Superintendent, Roger M. Powell.
