Texas’ Own Army Ready for Action

An article that was published in the Houston Post on 8 March 1942 titled “Texas’ Own Army Ready for Action” discussing the formation of the Texas Defense Guard by Brig. Gen J. Watt Page with Texas Governor Coke Stevenson as Commander-in-Chief. At the time, the Texas Defense Guard had nearly 20,000 officers and enlisted men that were separated into 50 Infantry Battalions and 15 Air Squadrons. The photographs depict: The Texas Defense Guard 48th Marine Battalion on a ship training for patrol duty in the Houston Ship Channel and the Texas Adjutant General, Brig. Gen. J. Watt Page, who organized the Texas Defense Guard.
