The Texas Guardsman Magazine from October of 1943. The Texas Guardsman was a monthly publication by the Texas State Guard Officers Association. In this edition you will find articles on:
- The Texas State Guard Officers’ Association First Annual Convention on October 2nd and 3rd at the Driskill Hotel in Austin. 30 of the 51 Battalions Texas State Guard Battalion were represented at this convention. Maj. Donald Peacock was re-elected President.
- Gen. Claude Birkhead was the principal keynote speaker at the banquet for the Texas State Guard Officers’ Association First Annual Convention. He declared the Texas State Guard the biggest and the best in the nation. General Birkhead warned strongly against being complacent with the good news in the newspapers.
- 1110 Guardsmen beating off an “enemy” attack in a mobilization training exercise. In this exercise the 19th, 29th, 35th and 51st Battalions acted as a Task Force. In this exercise a warning order was issued that “enemy troops” has occupied all the airports in Houston-Galveston area and that “enemy” troops were expected to attack airports east of Dallas.
