The Texas Guardsman Magazine from December of 1945. The Texas Guardsman was a monthly publication by the Texas State Guard Officers Association. In this edition you will find articles on:
1. Texans Take Reins of Supreme Army, Navy Commands: During the critical post war period, President Truman named General of the Army Dwight Eisenhower to be the Chief of Staff of the Army and Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz to be Commander in Chief of the Fleet and the Chief Naval Operations. Both men were born in Texas.
2. 31st and 26th Battalions Being Deactivated: The 31st Battalion from the Rio Grande Valley that was commanded by Lt. Col. Lloyd M. Bentsen announced in early November that it decided to disband. The 26th Battalion that was headquartered out of Mercedes under the command of Lt. Col. James B. Taylor is also deactivating, but one of the line companies out of Harlingen plans to remain active and make its personnel available for National Guard training.
3. Texans Flock to Army: The Eight Service Command has enlisted 25,00 men after the original goal was increased by 50 percent. Col. Robert L. Bacon who was the Director of Military Personnel Procurement said he would allow no foolishness to sabotage his drive for recruits.
