The Texas Guardsman Magazine from February of 1946. The Texas Guardsman was a monthly publication by the Texas State Guard Officers Association. In this edition you will find articles on:

  1. Tornado: The Texas State Guard in East Texas (Nacogdoches, Lufkin, Palestine, Corsicana, Crockett, and Greensville) responded to a Tornado on 4 January. Guardsmen spend long hours patrolling the storm area, helping the injured, searching for bodies, and removing bodies.
  2. Guard Recruiting Drive Outlined—The Adjutant General’s Department has launched a year-round recruiting campaign to keep the Texas State Guard a full strength. Brigadier General Knickerbocker, the Texas Adjutant General stated that many of the older men in the State Guard have been forced to return to private business which has affected the overall strength of the Guard, and creating the need for a recruiting drive.
  3. J. Edgar Hoover Gives Reason For Recruiting : Col. Homer Garrison, the Director of the Texas Department of Public Safety read an excerpt from an address from J. Edgar Hoover, the Chief of the Federal Bureau of Investigation at the Battalion Commanders meeting. J. Edgar Hoover discussed emerging threats from the Communist Party and both home-grown or imported fascists and Nazis.
