Selected photograph from the California State Guard Base Hospital No. 1 (Marion Davies War Work Hospital) from the collection of Corporal Marion Bross circa 1941-1942.

Corporal Bross joined the California State Guard Women’s Ambulance and Medical Battalion in September of 1941.

On 13 January 1942 the keys of the Marion Davies Children’s Hospital were turned over to the State of California to be used as a Military Hospital. This hospital became the garrison for the California State Guard’s 1st Medical Battalion (which was later expanded and redesigned the 1st Medical Regiment). The hospital was originally established as California State Guard Hospital No. 1 and was renamed Marion Davies War Work Hospital on 24 July 1942.
